| The Law Has
Changed For Training Assistance Dogs Assistance Dogs International (ADI) is NOT in Australian Law, and in NO WAY has any weight in Law In Australia.
Many 'Back Yard' dog trainers have trained Assistance Dogs in this country, in fact Danny Boy and Alex - (Pictured Left) - were attacked twice by ill trained Assistance Dogs in heavily trafficked and high pressure public areas. One of those attacks was an ADI trained dog, trained in North Queensland by so called 'professionals'. This is documented fact, as appropriate complaints were laid. The Disability Discrimination Act (Federal) 1992. This act was indeed in desperate need of overhaul, and so, on the 5th August 2009, the new Disability Discrimination Act was bought into law. It does now mention state acts, precedents in law, including the insistence that ALL Assistance Dogs should be trained to "Alleviate", also comply with reasonable standards of public safety and hygiene. The Queensland Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act (July 1st 2009) Queensland has bought in legislation that is yet to be fully "Proclaimed", this legislation is also in "Conflict" with the Federal Disability Discrimination Act 2009". We, Disability Aid Dogs, unless the QLD legislation is altered, will be adhering to the Federal Laws, so will NOT be registering with the Queensland Bodies. We are under our own constitution and so do not recognise, at this time, a somewhat uninformed and useless regime of laws that will do nothing to bring the industry together. Back Yard Trainers and
Armatures Beware! |
Victoria The Victorian Law Reform Commission has led a strong effort to legislate in their state for the safety of the Victorian Public. Legislation is either being empowered or will soon be so, also making the armatures illegal under Victorian Law. New South Wales New South Wales has the Companion Animals Act, plus a highly complex compendium of appended legislation which is being upgraded. Although there is no definite dates of the new laws in that state, the new Disability Discrimination Act Federal 2009, will also enforce professionally trained dogs. Australian Law
The DDA 2009 is at the end of all argument,
the federal act, and will enforce professionally trained dogs in
Australia. Please Note Disability Aid Dogs has been closely involved in consultation and consultancy in the process of all the stated legislation. We pride ourselves in knowing what the legislation is of each state and Federal Government Jurisdiction.
